LEARN TO SKATE ACADEMY

Thank you for expressing an interest in our Learn-to-Skate Academy program!

Our Learn-to-Skate Academy is an 8-week program that focuses on teaching the basics of being on the ice. Whether your interest is figure skating or hockey, our coaches work on developing the fundamental skills to get your skater started and comfortable moving on the ice.

The Learn-to-Skate Academy requires a payment of $165.00 and includes our 8-week Learn-to-Skate program, registration with Ice Sports Industry (ISI), Certificate of Completion, ISI level patch, skate rentals for each session and free admittance to the public skate session immediately following Academy.

Please Note: free admittance to the public skate session is only for the Academy skater, any family members wishing to skate during public session will need to pay at the front desk. 

 

Our 8-week program begins on a Saturday morning and runs for 8 consecutive Saturdays. There are two session times available; the first session runs from 11:15 AM - 11:45 PM and the second is 11:45 PM-12:15 PM. On the first day, our coaches evaluate each skater to determine what level they should be placed in. The skater will then stay with that group for the 8-weeks and will learn various skills that are required for that level. At the end of the 8-weeks, our coaches will test each skater to determine if they have met all the skill requirements and are ready for the next level. It is important to know that not every skater passes their skills test and may have to repeat the level during the next Learn-to-Skate Academy term. Skaters who do not pass their level, unfortunately, will not receive the Certificate of Completion or ISI level patch.

Our Academy offers classes for skaters of all ages and experience by including levels ranging from Beginner Tots to Adults. No experience is required. The Learn-to-Skate Academy is a great opportunity for anyone looking to learn a new skill, meet new friends and discover a new passion for being on the ice.

Our next Learn-to-Skate Academy term is set to begin Saturday, February 1, 2025, and end Saturday, March 22, 2025. For additional questions, please do not hesitate to submit an inquiry or reach out to our club directly.

Our Winter Academy also offers an option to participate in the BBFSC Holiday Show. The BBFSC annual Holiday show will occur at the end of the Winter Academy term and is a great way for skaters to showcase their skills, participate alongside our club members & experience the thrill of performing for an audience. To participate in the show, there will be 2 registration options. If you are interested in ONLY participating in the show, please select the 2nd SESSION ONLY option (PLEASE NOTE THIS OPTION REQUIRES THE SKATER TO HAVE COMPLETED AT LEAST 1 ACADEMY TERM DURING A PREVIOUS TERM AND TO BE ABLE TO STAND IN THEIR SKATES ON THE ICE INDEPENDENTLY). The second option is to participate in BOTH sessions. The skater can participate in the regular Learn-to-Skate Academy session (1st session) & the program practice (2nd session). To participate in both sessions, please select the BOTH SESSIONS option. The first session (11:15 AM - 11:45 AM) will be the regular Learn-to-Skate Academy where they'll continue to learn the skills of being on the ice and the second session (11:45 AM - 12:15 PM) will be used to practice their program for the show. The only available session time for regular Academy will be the first session (11:15 AM - 11:45 AM).

This is only for the Winter Academy term; the next Winter Academy will begin at the end of 2025 year. Exact dates are TBD. For additional questions, please do not hesitate to submit an inquiry or reach out to our club directly.
